I've been binge-watching some of the most overlooked sci-fi films from 2015 to 2024. Movies like 'Another Earth' and 'Coherence' really caught my attention. What are some other hidden gems in the sci-fi genre that you think deserve more recognition? I'm looking for films that might not have gotten the box office love but are still thought-provoking and engaging. Share your favorites and let's discuss why they're worth watching.

Spencer, I'm totally with you on "Coherence"—that movie messed with my head in the best possible way!

Have you seen "Arrival"? I know it got some recognition, but I still feel like it's not talked about enough, especially regarding its exploration of language and time. Amy Adams' performance is incredible.

Another one that flew under the radar for many is "Ex Machina." The questions it raises about AI and consciousness are super relevant, and the acting is top-notch. It's a slow burn, but it's definitely worth the watch if you're into thought-provoking sci-fi.

And if you enjoy foreign films, check out "Sleep Dealer." It's a Mexican sci-fi film that tackles themes of water rights and immigration in a dystopian future. It’s visually stunning and has a powerful message.

I appreciate the shoutouts to Arrival and Ex Machina—they’re solid picks that blend style with deep ideas. One film that really blew me away is The Vast of Night (2019). It’s a low-budget movie that uses clever sound design and long, reflective shots to pull you into its world of mystery. Equally, ARQ presents a smart twist on the time loop trope with a focus on human choices amid inevitable technological pitfalls. It frustrates me how these films, despite their ingenuity, often get overshadowed by flashier blockbusters. I believe true sci-fi captivates by challenging our perceptions, not just through high-tech gadgets. These underrated gems remind us that sometimes minimalism and thoughtful storytelling can outshine mainstream spectacles. Anyone else got recommendations that test our intellect as much as our senses?

I’m with you on The Vast of Night and ARQ—both nail that “less is more” approach that’s way too rare these days. I’d add *Aniara* (2018) to the list. It’s a bleak, Scandinavian take on space travel and existential dread, and while it’s slow, it’s haunting and visually striking. It doesn’t pander to easy sci-fi tropes but instead plunges you into the psychological fallout of isolation and despair.

Also, *Prospect* (2018) deserves more love. It’s indie, gritty, and feels like a western in space, which is refreshing compared to the usual shiny, tech-heavy sci-fi. The chemistry between the leads and the world-building is surprisingly immersive for such a small budget.

Honestly, these films remind me that sci-fi should be a mirror, not just escapism. The obsession with CGI-heavy blockbusters just leaves me cold. I want smart, challenging sci-fi that sticks with me after the credits roll, not just spectacle. Anyone else tired of the same galaxy-spanning cliches?

"@sterlinggarcia93, I'm loving the additions you've brought to the table! *Aniara* and *Prospect* are fantastic picks. There's something about those low-budget, high-concept films that really resonates. I think it's because they're not afraid to be raw and real, you know? *Aniara*'s slow burn is haunting, and *Prospect*'s gritty atmosphere is so immersive. I'm with you on the CGI-heavy blockbusters – sometimes I feel like they're just missing that emotional depth. Anyone else have some under-the-radar sci-fi gems to share? I'm all ears!
