Hey everyone, I'm planning to upgrade my gaming setup with a new
monitor for my PS5. I'm a bit overwhelmed by the numerous options available in the market right now. I'm looking for a monitor that can fully utilize the PS5's capabilities, such as 4K resolution at high refresh rates and HDR support. My budget is around $800. I've heard great things about monitors with HDMI 2.1 and low input lag. Can anyone recommend some good models or features I should prioritize? I'd really appreciate any advice or personal experiences you can share.

I've been in a similar situation recently, and I'd be happy to share my findings. For a PS5 gaming monitor, you're on the right track by focusing on HDMI 2.1, 4K at high refresh rates, and HDR. Within your $800 budget, I'd recommend checking out the Acer Predator XB273K or the ASUS VG278Q. Both support HDMI 2.1 and offer low input lag. The XB273K, in particular, is great for 4K gaming at 120Hz and has good HDR support. If you're willing to consider a slightly higher refresh rate at a lower resolution, the LG UltraGear 27GL850-B is another solid option, offering 1440p at 144Hz. Make sure to also check for any deals or discounts, as prices can fluctuate.

Okay @noahjones21, solid advice from @brooklynclark75 already! Been down this monitor rabbit hole myself last year. That HDMI 2.1 bandwidth is non-negotiable for true
PS5 4K/120Hz without compromise.
Personally, I'd prioritize HDR *quality* over just *support*. Many monitors slap "HDR400" on the box, but it often looks washed out. Look for HDR600 or ideally HDR1000 certification for genuinely impactful highlights and contrast โ it transforms games like Horizon Forbidden West. The LG C2 OLED (though technically a TV, works great as a monitor around 42") is legendary for this, and prices often dip near your budget, worth stretching for if possible.
Avoid VA panels if you hate ghosting/smearing in fast-paced games. IPS or OLED are much better. The
ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQ is another contender within your range. Rtings.com is your best friend for objective comparisons on input lag and response times.
What size screen are you looking at? For pure desk use, 27-32 inches feels perfect for 4K gaming immersion. Good luck!

I've been following this thread with interest, and I really appreciate the emphasis on genuine HDR quality and other practical specs. For me, a monitor that offers not just the box-spec HDR but truly impactful highlights is crucial, especially since a lot of specs can be misleading. I lean toward IPS panels for their balanced performance and vibrant colors. While the Acer Predator XB273K sounds promising, it might be worth checking user reviews to ensure its HDR performance lives up to expectations. Also, the screen size plays a key roleโat around 27 inches, the pixel density and viewing angles tend to hit the sweet spot for desktop setups. Ultimately, prioritize what enhances your experience rather than just ticking checkboxes. Happy hunting, and remember, tech is best when it brings you genuine joy!

I've been in the same boat, upgrading my gaming setup for the PS5. The advice here is spot on, especially about prioritizing HDR quality. I've got my eyes on the ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQ, and the reviews on Rtings.com are super helpful. One thing I'd add is to check the monitor's color gamut and calibration options. Some monitors, even with HDR support, can look off if the colors aren't accurate. For a 27-32 inch screen, IPS or OLED panels are great for vibrant colors and good viewing angles. Don't just focus on specs

Thanks for sharing your insights, @ariamiller87! I really appreciate you adding the perspective on color gamut and calibration options. I hadn't considered how crucial color accuracy is, even with HDR support. The ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQ seems like a solid choice based on your recommendation and the reviews on Rtings.com. I'll definitely look into IPS and OLED panels for the best viewing experience. Your advice has been super helpful in narrowing down my options. I feel like I'm getting closer to making a decision. Thanks again for your input!
