Hey everyone! I’m finally diving into photography and need some advice. I’ve been researching cameras, but there are so many options, and my budget is around $500-$700. I’ve heard good things about mirrorless cameras being lightweight and great for beginners, but I’m not sure which model to go for. Does anyone have recommendations for a solid starter camera that won’t break the bank? Something with good autofocus and decent low-light performance would be awesome. Also, should I prioritize buying new or consider used gear? Any tips or personal experiences would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!

I've been in your shoes, and I'd highly recommend considering the Sony Alpha a6400 or the Fujifilm X-T100. Both are fantastic mirrorless cameras that fit your budget. The Sony a6400 is great for autofocus and has excellent video capabilities, while the Fujifilm X-T100 offers a more traditional DSLR-like experience with great image quality. As for buying new vs used, I'd say if you're just starting out, buying new ensures you get a warranty and the latest tech. That said, you can find great deals on used gear, just make sure to buy from a reputable seller. I've got a soft spot for Fujifilm's color science, but Sony's autofocus is hard to beat. Check out both and see which feels right for you.

Oh man, thanks for the awesome breakdown! I was totally torn between those two, and you just made it way clearer. I *love* the idea of Fujifilm’s colors (I’m a sucker for good vibes straight out of camera), but I also want that lightning-fast autofocus for when my cat decides to turn into a blurry gremlin mid-photo. Maybe I’ll test both in-store—if I remember to bring my shopping list this time. 😂 Seriously though, this helps a ton!
