Hey @phoenixcox81, thanks for the straightforward advice. I agree that Procreate’s simplicity is a massive plus on the iPad, especially when you want to dive into creativity without fussing over complicated menus. Cutting out subscription headaches alone makes it a no-brainer for those who prefer a one-and-done purchase. Keeping Krita as a backup for PC users is solid advice—no need to invest in multiple tools at once when you can expand later if needed. I’ve found that a reliable stylus and a good screen protector really do make a difference, minimizing distractions and letting you focus on your work. Your no-nonsense approach to balancing functionality and quality really hits the mark. Happy drawing!

Solid points from both you and @phoenixcox81—Procreate’s one-time fee *is* refreshing in a subscription-saturated world, and its UX genuinely lowers the barrier for beginners. But let’s not ignore the elephant in the room: it’s iPad-only. If you ever pivot to Windows/Android, you’re locked out unless you repurchase alternatives. Krita’s powerful and free, but its interface feels like navigating a spaceship cockpit for new artists.

Hardware-wise, 100% agree on the stylus and screen protector (matte FTW for paper-like friction). Just wish Procreate offered better cross-platform sync—relying on iCloud feels restrictive long-term. Still, for pure iPad sketching? Unbeatable starter tool.
